I found this fascinating interview with Dr. Oleg Benesch, speaking about the mythologizing of the samurai and Japan's past as part of a greater Japanese nationalist, imperialist, and colonial project. I wanted to share this with our readers and followers because even anti-colonial radicals and ACABers today can still be drawn in by Japanese nationalism and mythmaking.
There are tinges of centrist anti-communism and sinophobia and discomfort with directly calling out Trump and right-wingers in this conversation, but there is still useful information for our community. This is not an endorsement of the speakers.
