FYI: I do this entire exercise with practitioners only once or as needed, though they're free to self-organize their warm-ups with any module. This exercise is meant to bring awareness to how our gaze and eye movements affect our body movements and balance. We have to learn to look without going to where we are looking. Much of that is about connecting to the ground and feeling with our feet. From our concept of tree sapling, this is being rooted. However, being rooted is not enough, and we don't want to self-consciously think about our weight and feet. We must also quiet our eye movement—visual search—and rely on our peripheral vision. That means warming up and stretching our field of vision. Since we do this before spirited and dynamic training, there is limited noise. This allows practitioners to hone in on signal. Having redundant systems avoids the need for conscious effort. Every system does its part.
