On Proficiency
In LMA, proficiency is the ability to drop into a gym, spar with a stranger, and reasonably protect both yourself and your partner.
Winning is not a measure of proficiency. Beginners can beat other beginners without being proficient.
Winning is a result. Skill is the ability to take what you know (theory) and apply it (praxis).
Proficiency is a measure of skill. It means you can reliably protect yourself and your training partner across typical sparring situations.
