"Flowing like water" is often a platitude that provides no useful information. But in Liberation Martial Arts, it's a very specific idea that's part of a bigger process of wayfinding.
Wayfinding is the process of orienting and dwelling in physical space to find (discover or clear) and navigate the Way. The Way is your unique path.
We apply the traditional knowledge of wayfinding to our martial arts approach, and once practitioners learn that approach, they can apply it to everything else. Our philosophy is: How you do one thing is how you do all things.
The more you dwell in wayfinding, the better you get at wayfinding. Skillfulness in wayfinding means to flow like water without any gaps in decision-making or movement. Flowing like water is the ability to seamlessly reorient, adapt, and navigate changing conditions.
The best way to flow like water is to play in water (an adaptive and yielding learning environment). This is our approach and what we mean by "flow like water."
