New Southpaw Project: Fighter's Brew
We're announcing a new project from Southpaw: Fighter's Brew. An All-Rounder Meguru recap show.
All-Rounder Meguru is a manga by Hiroki Endo that ran from 2008 to 2016. It's a series that's as much about youth as it is about martial arts and what happens to our passions once we become adults.
What do we lose along the way as we become adults? Are the things we love and are passionate about collateral damage as we enter the workforce and, ultimately, capitalism? Does childhood trauma define who we become? And what options are there for adults seeking community? These are the themes for All-Rounder Meguru.
It's a series for teenagers, and if you know anything about seinen manga, it can be crass and immature. But All-Rounder Meguru is much more tender and earnest than other seinen series. It also has some of the most technical explanations of MMA that's been beautifully crafted into the storytelling. This is why Fighter's Brew is the newest Southpaw project. It's a natural fit. But keep in mind that this series takes place in 2008 in Japan after the end of Pride FC.
As we've done with Deep Space Nine, we plan to recap each chapter of All-Rounder Meguru as audio episodes but edited and adapted into our own style. It'll be Meguru, remixed by Southpaw.
Like Southpaw: Deep Space Nine, each episode will be released first on Patreon. We'll release each season in its entirety on the Southpaw public feed as we finish them. So if you're not part of our Patreon, all you need to do is wait, and you'll get all the episodes. If you don't want to wait and want to listen to them early without any breaks for product and Patreon plugs, sign up for our Patreon.
We'll also be incorporating Fighter's Brew into our Liberation Martial Arts curriculum. Patrons who are part of the Liberation Martial Arts program or in a higher tier will get transcripts of each episode with more explanations of the techniques and concepts, along with commentary from the LMA perspective. Pictures from the manga will also be incorporated as illustrations.
All-Rounder Meguru will be a useful and fun way to teach some intricate martial arts concepts, which is why we're making this manga a part of our online curriculum. Who else uses manga as a teaching tool for their online martial arts program?
Manga has now entered the discourse.
So if you like Southpaw, if you like martial arts, if you like manga, please check out and support Fighter's Brew.
