Collapsing a Fall Addendum and the Problem With Recall

To clarify the techniques and strategies described in "Collapsing a Fall" and not to confuse it with what you might already know, I am including a video of a martial artist and stunt person showing stunt falls.

The goal of a stunt fall, whether in movies or pro wrestling, is to maintain the speed of impact for dramatic effect while trying to reduce damage as much as possible. This is also how many martial arts schools teach falling. (It started because stunts look great for demonstrations, plus crossover of movies, pro wrestling, and martial arts, then it became tradition). This is not what we are doing. We are not only trying to reduce impact but also slow down and expand the duration of the impact. We don't want a fast, dramatic fall where people are scratching their heads at how we (hopefully) didn't get seriously injured. We want a slow, casual fall where it's obvious no one got hurt, and people are thinking, "I can do that, too."
